City Ombud advises of festive office closures

09 December 2025

The City’s Ombud advises residents of office closures during the festive season. Residents are encouraged to utilise the options below to submit complaints.

The Cape Town Civic Centre Walk-in Office will be closed from 13:00 on 24 December 2025 and will reopen on 5 January 2026. The public can use the following modes of contact to register a complaint during the office closure:

  • A complaint box with complaint forms will be available on the 3rd floor, Civic Centre
  • SMS line: 44781 (standard rates apply)
  • e-Ombud www.capetown.gov.za/eOmbud
  • The Ombud satellite offices will be open today, 9 December 2025, and will then be closed for the festive season. Satellite office operations will continue as normal from 20 January 2026 from 09:00 to 14:00.

‘The Ombudsman’s Office deals with last-resort municipal-related complaints about the City’s administration, as an office of last resort. Complainants need to approach their first point of contact, such as the City’s Customer Relations Management Department or Subcouncil, before approaching the Ombud’s Office. We thank all members of staff, councillors and residents for their understanding and for continuing to submit their complaints during this time,’ said the City’s Ombud, Zetu Makamandela-Mguqulwa.
